Mega-cities ... and mega-city regions - 2: World - Megacities versus Megalopolises: A challenge for the future - "Experience shows that metropolitan areas are difficult to control," and "more so at the mega-city scale" when the accumulated difficulties become unmanageable. And, as they "become embedded in megalopolises, the problems are not solved, but become easier to control," since the wider "space affords multiple choices": A comparison of advantages and disadvantages of concentrically growing major metropolitan areas with a population of more than 10 million known as mega-cities and megalopolises - Of which there are currently at least 90 in existence - As they are reflected in the findings of the City of the Future research project of the Athens Center of Ekistics

Futures 1 - Tomorrow's world: Doom or brilliant ascent? - ... "the most threatening developments expected now for the future" -- From uncontrollably high growth rates, deterioration of human settlements and degeneration of the human species to violent events of human, physical or cosmic origin -- And their "cumulative catastrophic effect in ominous synergy" lead to an overall danger, "intensifying quickly during the next two decades, and reaching the high point of total destruction in about three decades from now." If there is no immediate change of global attitude and if a true revolution in thinking regarding priorities, outlook, politics and programs is not adopted leading to a morphological multi-plan of action for emergency coordination-organization, then humanity will have "a sure recipe for catastrophe."
